Password Change

Problem Summary

Employees may need or want to change their network account password and ensure it is updated across all connected services and devices.

Environment

  • Users: Employees
  • System: myAccount portal
  • URL: https://myaccount.monroecc.edu
  • Devices: Desktop, laptop, and mobile devices (email and Wi-Fi)
  • Systems Affected: Email, Wi-Fi, Single Sign On Applications

Issue

An employee needs to update their network account password and maintain access to all systems and devices.

Resolution

Step 1: Change Password

  1. Go to https://myaccount.monroecc.edu
  2. Click Sign In
  3. Log in using your username and current password
  4. Select Change Password
  5. Follow the prompts to create and confirm your new password

Step 2: Update Connected Devices and Systems

  • Update your password on your mobile device for:
    • Email
    • Wi-Fi
  • Use the new password when logging into:
    • Perceptive Content
    • Argos

Password Requirements

Best Practice:

  • Use a passphrase made of 3–4 unrelated words with added numbers/symbols (example: Jack Ate Pancakes2!)

A Password Must:

  • Be at least 14 characters long
  • Include at least three of the following:
    • Lowercase letter (a–z)
    • Uppercase letter (A–Z)
    • Number (0–9)
    • Symbol (!, ?, $, #, %, *)

A Password Must Not:

  • Contain your account name
  • Contain parts of your name
  • Start or end with a space
  • Include non-US keyboard characters
  • Be previously used

Expected Result

The employee successfully updates their password and maintains uninterrupted access to all systems and devices.

Cause

Passwords must be periodically updated for security. Failure to update saved credentials on devices or applications can result in login issues or account lockouts.

Additional Information

  • Not updating your password on mobile devices may cause repeated login failures and lockouts
  • Passphrases are recommended because they are easier to remember and more secure
